ORTO PARISI
MEGAMARE
Megamare by Orto Parisi is a 50 ml Eau de Parfum, created by perfumer Alessandro Gualtieri with marine accords as the central theme. It is intended to evoke the sea and is often worn for outdoor summer activities; user reviews report intense projection and very long-lasting wear (17+ hours), but the scent is polarizing, with some describing a synthetic, harsh aquatic character. Reviews note that the fragrance is potent and advise testing before purchase to avoid unpleasant reactions or overwhelming others.

Product Insights
Megamare is Orto Parisi's abyss-inspired first aquatic (2019), a perfumer-driven polarizing marine built on high-dose calone, iodic seaweed, ambroxan, and hedione that delivers a murky, metallic, animalic low-tide accord. Its core promise is extreme performance: room-filling sillage that outprojects and outlasts benchmarks like Acqua di Dio Profumo and Creed Erolfa, with a single application reported to last 12–17 hours, ending in pure sweet musk. The tradeoff is that this power demands caution—two sprays max, skin-only application because it permanently stains fabric, and open-air warm-weather wear because indoors the dry-down musk can trigger headaches or nausea. The bright citrus opening burns off quickly, leaving a briny heart that dries to parched cedar and a polarizing musk, with recent batches reported as dialed down from the original strength. At $330 AUD it undercuts official Australian pricing and carries the lineage of Alessandro Gualtieri's material-first philosophy, but it is explicitly not a blind buy—test on skin first via an official sample, and be aware of allergens, batch variation, and authenticity checks like RFID tags and capped orders.
Verified claims
- Material
- Eau de parfum whose marine accord is built from calone, seaweed, ambroxan and hedione.
- Marine accord
- High-dose calone and iodic seaweed yield a murky, metallic, animalic low-tide marine accord.
- Scent evolution
- Bright citrus burns off in minutes; the briny calone-seaweed heart dominates the wear.
- Drydown
- Dries to parched cedar and a musk some buyers find headache-inducing or stomach-churning.
- Projection arc
- Projection starts room-filling, then settles skin-close after a few hours.
- Longevity
- Buyers report a single application lasts 12–17 hours, ending as pure sweet musk.
- Sillage
- Buyers report room-filling sillage — one wearer's dose scented an airport terminal.
- Dosage
- Buyers advise at most two sprays; three last a full day, more is overkill.
- Performance
- Outlasts and outprojects Acqua di Gio Profumo and Creed Erolfa, and is Orto Parisi's strongest.
- Fabric staining
- Buyers warn Megamare survives multiple washes and can permanently stain fabric; apply to skin and let dry.
- Wearability
- Best outdoors in warm weather; in enclosed spaces buyers report headaches and nausea.
- Positioning
- Megamare is the fantasy, abyss pole of niche marine perfumery—grayer and more nocturnal than Black Sea or Acqua di Sale.
- Price context
- At $330 AUD, undercuts Australian authorized-stockist pricing.
- Creative philosophy
- Material-first, body-as-garden philosophy makes Megamare an abyss-inspired marine meant to polarize
- Environment
- Best in open-air heat; indoors, buyers report headache-inducing musk.
- Blind buy risk
- Not a blind buy; test on skin first.
- Allergens
- INCI lists five common fragrance allergens; patch-test before full wear.
- Alternatives
- Lattafa Atlas is the budget clone; Black Sea and Oud Minérale are the premium alternatives to the same marine DNA.
- Authenticity
- Orto Parisi sells no testers, caps orders at three per quarter, and authentic boxes carry an RFID tag.
- Batch variation
- Buyers report recent batches are dialled down from the original 12+ hour strength.
- Batch identification
- Older bottles show a silver cap with Haitian shell inlay and a tweed-paper label; new ones have a logo-embossed pump.
- Verification
- Orto Parisi offers email authenticity checks, sells no testers; direct orders cap at 3 per fragrance per quarter.
- Pricing
- At $330 AUD, $30–$33 below Sweet Fern/Saison but above the US $205 and EU €155 tickets.
- Sampling
- NOAH, an official Australian stockist, sells a 1ml sample — the $330 bottle can be tested first.
- Value per wear
- Buyers report 12+ hours from one-to-two sprays, giving a low per-wear cost; cheaper clones soften the projection.
- Packaging
- Genuine Megamare caps are tumbled silver with saltwater-greenish corrosion and an inlaid Haitian seashell.
- Price legitimacy
- At $330 AUD this listing sits below the official Australian stockist range of $360-$363, inside legitimate authorized-retail territory.
- Formulation transparency
- Full INCI is published by retailers, naming six EU allergens and synthetic dyes; notes stay hidden.
- Skin sensitivity
- Patch-test before full wear: alcohol stings broken skin and the dry-down can trigger headaches.
- Concentration
- Official designation is Parfum (extrait), the highest concentration tier; oil % undisclosed.
- Application precautions
- Fabric holds Megamare through washes and can stain permanently; apply on skin only and let dry.
- Stain prevention
- Spray only on skin and let dry before dressing; fabric stains are permanent.

Description of Megamare as a harsh marine scent
The least friendly marine scent I’ve come across. Smells like a chemical spill on a pirate ship

A journey from love to hate with Megamare's dry-down
The opening was lovely. Lovely enough for the first 40 minutes or so that I almost went back and bought it there and then, just for that wonderful kinda-sea-but-metallic wonderful weirdness. I spent the next ninety in a car with the aircon on and I barely noticed it - just a vague seaweed scent when I moved my arm. But it was kinda not really there, and I’ll admit I assumed it had faded off me. Then I got back home and my first thought was something must have gone off, maybe there was an issue with the drains, there was a really unpleasant smell that hadn’t been there when I left. It was in the hall, the kitchen, the bathroom…. I headed upstairs where there’s no plumbing and it was there too, and that’s when I realised it was me. Or more accurately, my forearm. It’s really difficult to describe this part of Megamare. Not sewers, not drains, not sex or sweat or any of the overblown weird reviews on certain sites. Just deeply unpleasant muskiness that was both headache inducing and vaguely stomach churning at the same time.

Nuclear longevity and projection in hot weather
Guys just woke up. It’s been 17 hours since I applied it. Both my wrists smell like sweet musk. That’s it. No other note. Purely musk. It’s not projecting. I need to sniff my wrist to be able to detect the perfume. So the longevity is top notch without a doubt. I’m guessing 3 sprays of this will last the whole day. More than 3 will be overkill to people around you and for yourself too.

Airport terminal filled with Megamare's scent
On my way home from my vacation there was one dude that made a whole terminal (Bari Airport) smell Megamare. It is crazy how potent it is. Outside it was nearly 40 degrees so everyone was radiating. Poor souls that was on the same flight as him.
